Our first rescue center / orphanage is in Kakamega, Kenya. Kakamega is a village ten hours northwest of the main capital city, Nairobi.
This orphange was built just a year and a half after starting Waweza Movement at a total cost of $40,000.
The orphanage is built to house 100 orphans and 50 widows plus the widow’s children. Upon opening, the stateside staff and the on-the-grounds staff have decided to begin with 40-50 orphans and 20 widows in order to become acclimated to running a home.
The cost of upkeep for the orphanage on a monthly basis sits right around $1,500. This includes four paid staff members, three meals a day for staff, orphans, widows, and their children, clothes for the children, schooling for the children, gardening prices, livestock prices and skill trade training for the children.
Our on-the-grounds director is Julius Abungana. Julius is Kenyan and has lived in Africa all his life. He leads over 52 churches, 2 nursery schools, and all of Waweza Movement’s projects.
He runs our medical clinics, our prison ministry, our bible distribution, our food distribution, our water well projects, and oversees all work and management of the orphanage.
